Close Call in Texas: KJ2’s Wild Ride at March Mania 5

Cory Clemens

The KJ2 team rolled into Texas for Big Jake Promotions’ March Mania 5 with big changes, big goals, and big risks. After overhauling the chassis and swapping turbos, the crew hoped to make a serious run at the $130,000 pot—but the weather had other plans.

Testing was cut short by rain, leaving the team guessing. After a single late-night test hit, driver Cory Clemens finally got the car to go A to B—barely in time for eliminations. That’s when the draw came in: Boddie Jr., one of the toughest in the game.

With dew soaking the track and 99% humidity at midnight, Cory voiced safety concerns to promoter Dominiqe. “I just made a pass—it’s slick out there,” he warned. But the race went on.

As Cory staged for round one, his windows fogged, the jungle beast snarled, and the tree dropped.

Then chaos.

The car launched, broke loose, snapped left—then violently right. “I thought it was going over,” Cory said. But somehow, he wrestled it back and minimized the impact, tagging the wall only with the rear quarter.

No roll. No flip. Just cosmetic damage and a crushed exhaust. A miracle save.

The rebuild is already underway—and it’s all being documented on the KJ2 YouTube series “Hello Wall.”
